Project Venia 0.12
Hey there, everyone.
It's been a while, hasn't it? But after three whole years, I finally updated the game to PV v0.12.
This is a changelog and an update on the entire situation of this game.
First of all the changelog:
What has changed? Basically everything.
I rewrote the entire game and changed the file structure. I also decided against the Android compression, added new images, new tracks, new FAQs, new designs, fixed some encyclopedia and Cognito entries, changed some descriptions and tweaked minor ideas.
In short: It's a completely new game. So to all my 45 players so far (this game literally has only 45 downloads after three years, goddamn): I'm sorry, but you're savefiles most likely don't work with the new version.
And now for the update/the state of the game:
I still don't have playtesters, an editor, a proofreader or even a single review in case anyone is wondering.
v0.12 consists of a finished chapter 1, a first book. It contains more than 30.000 lines of dialogue and over 2.000 images.
That's the state of the game, which you download.
As for the future, my next goal would be chapter 2. And here I have three news for you: The good, the neutral and the ugly.
The good news: I finished outlining chapter 2.
The neutral news: It will be at least two times the size, most likely even three times the size of chapter 1. That means more story and gameplay in exchange for more work for me and more waiting time for you.
The ugly news: I will begin writing chapter 2 earliest in the year 2028. And it will be released earliest in the year 2033, most likely even 2038. I simply lack the time and motivation as of now.
And everything down here is just another freestyle rant of mine, a message from me to anyone, who cares enough to read this:
I still firmly believe that PV is one of the best stories to have ever been written.
I mean I'm biased, obviously... But the fact, that I can replay it countless time and still smile and enjoy it despite all of its flaws is all I need to know.
PV, at its core, is a game from me to me. That's why I don't mind whether the game dies in obscurity or not. In the end all that matters is that I enjoy it.
But it's undeniable, that I would prefer it to be read by people. Because in the end, that's what all stories set out to do: They want to be read.
And I also firmly believe, that PV is a story the world needs. In the present and the foreseeable future.
It's a strong antidote for the atomization and separation, that grips the world ever tightly.
It's a game, that asks you the question why you live out your individualism in isolation instead of bringing it into a collective, into the world.
And it answers the demoralization of our times while trying its hardest to defy the evergrowing pessimism.
It showcases topics, that even ten, twenty, thirty years from now will still hold relevance. Most likely even increase in relevance.
And it gives an honest answer to these problems: optimism and perseverance, two answers that nowadays for some reason get ridiculed by people, who mask their surrender and pessimism as insight, realism or even intelligence.
I still won't promote it, I still won't adhere to any algorithm or first impression and I still won't ask anyone to share it with anybody.
But I will instead play it from time to time as a reminder to myself, that this work of passion will always have meaning.
PV did its second most important job: It showed to me, that I could do it. That I was able to write a full book.
I just hope that someday, somewhere it will be able to fulfill its most important job: To make another person smile.
My name is Hyun Seiker. I work on passion projects.
